Hey RC Team,

We’re delighted to bring you the Winter edition of your Cantaloop Team Member Newsletter! 🍈

Starting off with the most important part first – we owe a big, huge, massive THANK YOU to the entire team! 🙏 It was one of the busiest times of the year and we didn’t just survive, we THRIVED!!! We couldn’t have done it without all of you – we appreciate you so very much! 💚

Now that we’ve made it through the Christmas chaos, let’s chat about what’s happened & what’s happening! ⏰

We’ll start off strong with a message for you from Daisy…

NEW YEAR – NEW TATTOO

Hi team!

I love the exercise of reflecting back. We are always in such a hurry that we can miss the highlight reel if we don’t take the time. Our negative experiences take a lot more bandwidth + resources so they can be what surfaces the quickest when looking back at our year; it is so easy to get caught up in what didn’t go right, but if you linger, the cream rises to the top.. and is delicious.

2023 was a big year around here so my list is long but the front runners are:

  • We celebrated the Root Cellar’s 15th anniversary!
  • We developed new leadership roles + have successfully integrated a COO to our ranks!
  • We built an 18’ charcuterie board + celebrated our team in #foodislove style!
  • The first ever RC tattoo came to be!

I was going to keep going but this last one stalled me out.  Accomplishing things you set out to achieve is rewarding, but being utterly blindsided by an act of allegiance? Creativity? Buy in? Lunacy? Is absolutely glorious. It’s not for me to decide (and I quite prefer the mystery) why this tattoo exists, but I can tell you that I LOVE IT, and it made my day, my week, my year. I get to live + die as someone who created a brand worthy of a tattoo.

I invite you to take the time to let the cream rise as you look back. The moments that brightened your year may surprise you.

With huge gratitude for all that each of you has brought to the RC family this past year ~ we wish you a spectacular 2024.

Warmly

Daisy + Adam

TATTOO TALK… WITH JASON NORMAN

Yes, you’re absolutely seeing that correctly – Jason Norman is the proud new owner of a Root Cellar tattoo! 🎉

When? Why? How? 🤷‍♀️

Find all the answers below!!

Tell us about your new tattoo? Why did you choose it?

I like Tattoos. I like the Root Cellar.  There’s values alignment between RC and my own values.  I also like tattoos that mark moments and times in my life.  I moved back to Victoria after nearly 20 years to work at the Root Cellar, it seemed worthy of marking!

What was your first tattoo and at what age did you get it?

My first tattoo was when I was 17 at university.  A friend and I got the same tattoo (slightly modified graphic from Alice in Chains Dirt album) from the cousin of a guy we played football with in high school… It was in the back of a hair salon.

How many tattoos do you have?

How many is hard to count, some of them sort of blend together, but 17 is pretty accurate!

Do you have a favourite tattoo?

I like all of them, even the not so good ones.  Fourteen of my tattoos I did myself, and all of them represent a specific time in my life.  But if I had to pick, I have a tattoo of art from Scott Hutchison it’s quite simple but is one of the first tattoos I did myself, so it stands out for me.

Do we reckon we’ll see any other Root Cellar tattoos pop up in 2024? Only time will tell! 👀

TEAM ANNOUNCEMENTS: PICKLE WINNERS!

As you may be aware, we have a fun tradition that’s been running four years strong – FIND THE PICKLE!! 🥒

It’s a Christmas tradition that dates back to the early 1800s, where a pickle ornament would be hidden on the tree and the first person to find the lucky pickle would receive an extra present and a year of good fortune. 🎄

While it started off as a family tradition for Adam + Daisy, it didn’t take long for that tradition to extend to The Root Cellar Family!

A magical pickle was hidden in both stores, waiting for a lucky team member to find…

This year’s prize? An Aventon Soltera 7S 350W Electric City Bike! 🎁

This years winner’s? At Oxford Corner, we have Assistant Grocery Manager Paola Velasquez  & at McKenzie Corner, Meat Cutter Jack Roeke!

Way to go you two!! 👏

Can’t wait to see what we’ve got in store for next year! ❤️
