When you think of The Root Cellar, there might be a few things that come to mind. Perhaps it’s a village green grocer, or maybe that we’re a family-owned business, or you might even think of all the tasty locally grown fruits + veggies that fill our stores.

Or maybe, just maybe, you’re rolling your eyes along with us because you know all too well what the real answer is. It’s Green Sauce. Green Sauce comes to mind!

It’s the star of The Root Cellar that shines just a little brighter than the rest. 

And today, we’re shining the spotlight on it!

With all the tasty combinations you can enjoy with Green Sauce, it’s hard to believe that when it was first introduced, we only had one pairing in mind.

Originally, Green Sauce was created as a condiment to complement our Peruvian-rubbed rotisserie chickens in the deli. We wanted something made in-house that featured an array of fresh herbs, to be sold directly alongside the chickens.

It was important to us that it elevated people’s food experiences, complemented a variety of meals (not just the chicken!), and contributed positively to people’s food memories (after all, my grandma always said that the best way to someone’s heart is through their stomach!).

After some experimenting and plenty of taste tests, Green Sauce was born!

And, it wasn’t long before you started asking to buy it on its own. It was then that we let Green Sauce step out from its role as a sidekick to our rotisserie chickens and shine as the main attraction! 

We haven’t looked back since.
