Keeping Your Dollars Where Your Heart Is

Hi Root Cellar Community,

These are uncertain times, and change is in the air.

But what truly matters is not changing.  What truly matters has always mattered, and our ability to engage and impact, also remains the same. We are just experiencing a call to action, so let’s heed that call.

Supporting our Local /  BC / Canadian economy – has always been important.
Supporting local sustainable food systems – has always been important.
Supporting independent local & Canadian businesses – has always been important.

There is a strong temptation to do what is easy, to buy whatever is most convenient.  But it appears to be time now, to set aside convenience, whim, and impulse, and to do what is right, not what is easy.

Like everything, exercise, nutrition etc… you do NOT have to go ALL IN to have impact.  Do ANY exercise and there WILL BE BENEFITS right? Dramatic change isn’t right for everyone. So do what feels right for you.

What can you do? How do you start?

Buy BC Apples instead of California Oranges.

Build your grocery lists and meals with local and Canadian products and use US products sparingly.

Shop at locally owned businesses / be loud & proud about it – tell your friends, share on social media.

Get curious + ask questions.  Know who grew and made your food, know who owns your favourite shops and cafes.

We will always welcome curiosity, and enthusiasm for supporting our local growers and makers of food.

You can rest assured that our LOCAL FOCUS remains strong with over 250 BC suppliers.

We have always and will continue to source starting from as close to home as possible.

We will prioritize imports from countries that want to have healthy trade relationships.

We will continue to clearly state the origins of our products on signs so you can make informed decisions.

We will continue to champion our local growers and makers.

We are here to make supporting local and Canadian growers & makers more approachable for you.

Making changes to your consumer habits doesn’t need to feel like a protest but merely a course correction to focusing on strengthening our communities, and our country, and it’s as simple as starting by putting down that orange and picking up an apple.

Whatever you want to call it, ‘voting with your fork’, or ‘putting your wallet where your mouth’ is… THANK YOU for continuing to keep your dollars where your heart is. Our business exists because of your values, and our values are what define us as citizens.

Change is in the air, and it’s going to be delicious.

Warmly,

Daisy + Adam
