Hi Root Cellar Community,
A Team Member approached us last week, asking what we were doing, how we were using our voice, to inform, support, show compassion and increase visibility for the tragic recent discovery of the unmarked graves of 215 indigenous children, it’s impact on our communities, and it’s reflection on our history.
Having personally contributed, educated our kids, cried, wondered, and worried, I was humbled (but grateful) to have been reminded to reach OUT, instead of just IN.
We can’t change the past but we can build a future we can be proud of. We can lean into uncomfortable conversations; say the wrong thing, in the interest of learning how to do the right thing. We can acknowledge our history, and take responsibility for our future.
It is so easy to feel like we’re too small to make a difference, so if all you can do is learn, do learn. Learn and eat oranges. All proceeds from this week’s sale of Satsuma Mandarin Oranges, along with a dollar for dollar match from The Root Cellar will be contributed to The National Centre For Truth & Reconciliation.

We can all do something.
